Legal translations
Legal translations require specialised legal translators with more than just linguistic skills; they need to be real experts in the field of law so as to be fully familiar with specific legal systems and terms. Choosing the right legal terminology is vital: even one wrong term in a legal deed or document can significantly alter its meaning to the detriment of the interests at stake!
We’ve been working for leading Italian and international law firms, lawyers, notaries, accountants and numerous corporate legal departments for over 20 years.
Our experience in this sector makes us a true benchmark for legal translations and related language services.
We specialise in legal translations in the fields of public law (administrative, criminal, procedural, tax, and international law, and EU legislation) and private law (civil, commercial, industrial, labour, banking and real estate, and intellectual property).
The quality of our legal, sworn and legalised translations is guaranteed by a team of linguists specialised in this field. What’s more, our project managers are experienced in managing legal projects, meeting even the tightest deadlines and guaranteeing the complete confidentiality of all your documents.
Our method for legal translations
Legal experts and translators
You can count on our network of legal experts and translators for all your legal, sworn and legalised translation needs. We collaborate with experienced legal translators and licensed lawyers. These are strictly native speakers, thus combining a mastery of the language with an excellent knowledge of the law, also acquired in the course of their professional activities.
We also collaborate with legal translators registered as court-appointed experts with the Court of Milan (these are known as CTUs in Italian).
All our linguists sign strict confidentiality agreements and adopt the best technologies to optimise the translation process.
Speed and technology in legal translations
When dealing with legal translations, the production lead time — the time from receiving a request to delivering the finished work — needs to be short because in a legal case timing can determine the outcome!
By drawing on our 20 years of experience with legal translations, we’re able to handle urgent requests with the utmost care. Our strengths lie in streamlined work procedures, a specialised in-house Lead Linguist dedicated to legal translations, and professionals with various specialisations and knowledge of different legal systems.
Different legal systems
Globalisation requires us to govern relations between subjects from different countries. This means that rules and regulations, legal documents and contracts have to be drafted in different languages and according to different legal systems.
The difference between the traditional continental legal system, or Civil Law, and the Anglo-Saxon model, or Common Law, is a striking example of this. The difference between the two systems is substantial: while in civil law systems, based on Roman law and in use in continental Europe (including Italy), codified statutes predominate, in common law countries, namely England, the United States, Australia and the former British colonies or protectorates, case law is of primary importance.
This leads to a whole host of difficulties in the translation of legal documents, because it also requires a ‘transposition’ from one system to another, which only an experienced legal expert can achieve.
